The National Trust has been running since 1895 when it was founded by three members. Octavia Hill, Sir Robert Hunter and Canon Hardwicke Rawnsley. It currently has 500 properties it owns and manages. It is also the largest landowner in the country with over 620,000 acres owned by them.
What National Trust membership gives you
A National Trust membership will give you free entry to all of their properties and parks. It also gives you free parking at those properties where there would normally be a parking fee, usually around £3. I go over if I think whether I think it is worth paying for membership here. Being a member also gives you some side benefits along with the free entrance to properties. The National Trust has worked some partner deals with companies to offer their members some special discounts. These are mainly percentage discounts but there also a few special member only items.
National Trust membership types
The National Trust currently offers nine different membership types that you can choose from. They range from a single person membership all the way up to a family lifetime membership. This list below is the current memberships and their associated costs per year.

- Individual – Junior under 18 – £10 (Note: This level does not get you the free parking or the yearly handbook)

For those that are not currently a member of the National Trust there is an entrance fee and in some cases also a parking fee to visit National Trust properties. The cost of entry does vary between properties, based on size and popularity. But an average price for the places that do charge an entrance fee is £12.50 based on entrance fee for the last ten National Trust properties that I visited.

However those that are a lifetime members of the National Trust are able to bring in a guest with them when they visit a National Trust property.
